Cool renders show what the HTC M8 might look like

We’ve seen the HTC M8 (the HTC One’s successor) star in plenty of leaks but they all have something in common – low quality photos. XDA-Developers user hamdir collected all leaked photos and created beautiful renders of the M8.

Some of the things are dubious – like the second camera. The images that showed it were called out as fakes by an HTC regional director, but there are plenty of leaked images that feature a second opening above the camera (including back covers).
Another interesting but dubious feature is the dual-LED flash that uses two different colors of LEDs, just like the Apple iPhone 5s’ flash. It’s something featured in many (but not all) leaks and might prove to be false in the end.

Still, the renders show a beautiful device that is certainly close to the latest batches of spy shots we’re seeing. You can read hamdir’s detailed explanations of where each component of the HTC M8 render came from over at XDA.

Windows 9 may come out April next year

It’s no secret that Windows 8 hasn’t exactly been a resounding success. So what’s the best way to fix a failed OS? Start over. That’s what Paul Thurott, a Windows news maven, believes will happen in April of 2015 with the release of Windows 9.
Thurott believes that Microsoft’s Build 2014 developer conference will see the announcement of Windows 9 this April, with the release of the OS set for the following year.

Windows 8 came under a lot of fire for its wild redesign. The Start menu’s absence being the most notorious omission from Microsoft’s new OS. Well the beloved Start menu should be making a comeback in Windows 9, and it’s rumored that it may return even as early as the Windows 8.1 update.
Live tiles haven’t really caught on either, however, there’s a reported “Metro 2.0″ feature that will be added to Windows 9, along with improvements to the MS app world.
Not much is known about the plans for Windows 9 at Build 2014, but there will be three alleged major selling points of the new OS. It’s in Microsoft’s best interest to garner some anticipation for Windows 9, as they’re losing out more and more in the personal computing market to Apple.
We’ll keep you updated on any Windows 9 updates so stay tuned.

Upcoming Apple iWatch to be made exclusively by LG

Korean tech giant LG has supposedly come to terms with Apple to produce the company’s first wearable device.

It’s slated to sport a curved Plastic OLED (P-OLED), the same as the one introduced last year by LG with its G Flex smartphone. LG has allegedly secured exclusive manufacturing rights for the initial production volume of 2 million units.
The panels are said to measure 1.52 inches in diameter, but their resolution wasn’t specified. The source coming out of Korea indicates a release date between July and September of 2014, and coincides with earlier rumors we heard about an iPod-replacing iWatch slated for 2014 and priced in the $149-$229 range. The curved OLED display has also been mentioned before.
This latest rumor is music to the ears of many Apple purists who hope the iWatch will bring some much needed innovation to a smartwatch segment that many feel is still in its infancy. Apple is playing it close to the vest as the 2 million initial production order is a far cry of the 63.4 million shipments of the device expected this year by some analysts. There’s also no mention of the different men’s and women’s models we heard inklings of, but late 2014 is still a ways away.

Intel powered Nexus 8 to come this year

According to the latest reports the next iteration of the popular Google Nexus tablet will feature an Intel processor, when it debuts in the second quarter this year. The information comes from the famous DigiTimes insider sources, which aren’t the most reliable around but have come up with the occasional gem.

The slowing demand for the second-generation Nexus tablet and the stiff competition has made the search engine giant to turn its focus on the next edition of the slate.
The report also claims that the 2013 version of the Nexus 7 slate has lost its pricing advantage and is no longer an affordable device as the average selling price of a 7-inch Android tablet is now below $166, while the Nexus 7 costs you $229 at the moment. Google Nexus 8 is rumored to be powered by an Intel Bay Trail-T processor and ASUS seems to be a front runner to manufacturer the next generation Nexus tablet. However, there is no official word at the moment so take it all with a pinch of salt.

Samsung Galaxy S5 unofficial renders look credible, pretty hot

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is hot news these past couple of months – never mind that it’s not official. We’ve heard reports, whispers and even outright shouts about the upcoming flagship device and now, based on those, a Dutch website has created a render of the device, which we happen to find really hot.

The render is based on leaked information concerning the hardware but also the software of the device. It features an aluminum body, transparent TouchWiz on top of Android, the now familiar faux leather on the back and more.
First off the device has a bigger display and even slimmer bezels, based on the claims of the Galaxy S5 having a 5.25″ screen. The panel will, supposedly, have a 1440 x 2560 (2K) resolution.

There should be some kind of fingerprint scanner but we can’t really see one on the renders. The housing of the device is aluminum but we could see two installments of the Galaxy S5 – one plastic and one metal.
The leather-looking panel on the back looks really fresh, especially with that white on black stitching work. The device looks a little like the Galaxy S4 Active – it even has that cyan color option.

The screen should be covered with Gorilla Glass 3, while the UI underneath should be the brand new, tile-friendly TouchWiz UI on top of Android 4.4 KitKat.
The camera is taunted as a 20 MP unit although we’ve heard reports of a 16 MP ISOCELL unit. The battery could sport a capacity of 2900 mAh with rapid charging tech.

In the end these are nothing more than renders based on rumors. We’ve seen other renders of the Galaxy S5 but the question remains – will we see a Galaxy S5 soon or will we have to hold off for a little while?

Apple may have sold 25 million iPads last quarter

Munster consensus numbers indicate that Apple could have moved 24-25 million iPad units in Q4 2013. These numbers gain more credence when you consider that Fortune magazine echoed pretty much the same figures.

Many analysts believe that Apple could have sold even more iPads had it not been for the shortage of retina displays for the iPad mini. Couple this with the fact that the iPad air didn’t hit shelves until November 1st, and we could continue to see strong iPad sales even throughout Q1 2014.
Consumer Intelligence Reports released info that indicates the even though the iPad air has been outselling its larger counterparts, the last-gen iPad mini is still the king, outselling the air by 9%. The same firm also believes that the price of iPads are expected to rise, which does seem like a bold claim seeing as Apple’s tablet’s cost has only fallen since its release.
